Export/Import of Messages
  • exporting_messages
  • importing_messages

This section is designed for bulk background import and export of messages from units. The section consists of four tabs on which you can perform the following operations:

  • exporting messages;
  • importing messages;
  • deleting messages;
  • restoring messages (that is, cancelling the previous import).

Exporting Messages

On this tab, you can export messages from one or all units for the selected interval. The exported WLB files are saved as a ZIP archive to the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir directory. Subsequently, you can import them to the unit or units again on the Import tab.

To export messages, do the following:

  1. In the Export type field, select All messages if you want to export them for all time. If you want to export messages for a specific period, select Interval and indicate its beginning and end (the From and To fields).
  2. In the Export timeout field, specify the timeout duration between the exports of messages from different units if there are several of them. The timeout allows avoiding the system overload. To save the specified value, click Change .
  3. In the Units field, select the units you want to export:
      • all units;
      • units belonging to a certain account;
      • units belonging to a certain user;
      • specific units.

    Depending on your selection, specify the required units or the name of the required account or user.

  4. Click Start .

You can stop the export and, if necessary, resume it later.

The tooltip of the icon   displays information about the export: its status, start time, number of messages and units, and so on.

Importing Messages

On this tab, you can import files saved as a result of export in the administration system.

The imported files are moved from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir directory to the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/imported_files/ directory. The files that could not be imported are placed in the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/import_failure directory.

The possible import types and the options related to them are described below.

Import typeDescription
All filesAll files from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir directory are imported.
File listOnly the selected files are imported. To select the files, specify their names in the File search field.
File to unitThe selected file or files are imported to the selected unit. To select the files and the unit, use the dynamic search in the File search and Unit search fields, respectively.
As with export, you can specify the timeout duration between the imports of messages from different units in the Import timeout field.

The tooltip of the icon   displays information about the import: its status, start time, number of messages and units, and so on.

Deleting Messages

On this tab, you can delete the following types of files:

  • exported files (from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir directory);
  • imported files (from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/imported_files/ directory);
  • files with an import error (from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/import_failure directory).

Besides, searching for files and selecting specific files for deletion are available for each file type.

Restoring Messages

On this tab, you can restore the files imported previously and the files during the import of which an error occurred. As a result of restoring, the files are moved from the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/imported_files/ and /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir/import_failure directories to the /home/wialon/wlocal/tmp/exp_imp_dir directory. After that, you can import these files again.
