Notification Types
  • notifications

Depending on the conditions of triggering, notifications in Wialon are divided into types which you can select when creting the notification.

Below are all the possible notification types and the parameters available for them.

Speed

A notification of this type allows monitoring the vehicle speed.

For this purpose, configure the following options:

OptionDescription
Control type

Available options:

  • Fixed speed limit. The notification is triggered if the speed value is above or below the specified range (the Min and Max fields);
  • Road speed limits. The notification is triggered if the speed limits from maps are violated. For this control type, you can specify the number of kilometers per hour by which the limits from maps can be exceeded (the Tolerance on speeding field).
Trigger if there is no assigned driver

If this option is enabled, the notification is triggered if the conditions specified for the control type are met, and no driver is assigned to the unit.

Sensor value

If this option is enabled, there is an additional condition for triggering the notification: a specific sensor value. The option is configured similarly to the notification type of the same name.

Speeding can't be detected on the basis of a message with Wi-Fi data, as the speed value in such a message is considered to be zero.

Geofence

Below are the steps to configure a notification of the Geofence type.

  1. Select when the notification should be triggered:
    • when the unit enters the geofence (Inside geofence);
    • when the unit leaves the geofence (Outside geofence).
  2. Select the resource whose geofences should be displayed in the list (select All available to view the geofences of all available resources).
  3. In the left list, select the geofences or groups of geofences (displayed in square brackets) for which the notification should be triggered. You can use the dynamic filter above the list to search.
  4. Using the icon , move the items from the left list to the right one.
  5. In the Advanced options section, if necessary, specify the additional conditions under which the notification should be triggered. It can be the range of speed values (the Speed option), and/or the range or the difference of the selected sensor values (the Sensor value option).
  6. Select the logical operator on the basis of which the notification should be triggered if several geofences are selected. The OR and AND operators are available.

Logical operators for a unit inside the geofence

Logical operatorDescription
ORThe notification is triggered when the unit enters any of the selected geofences.
ANDThe notification is triggered when the unit is in all the selected geofences at the same time.

Logical operators for a unit outside the geofence

Logical operatorDescription
ORThe notification is triggered when the unit leaves any of the selected geofences if it previously has been in all of them at the same time.
ANDThe notification is triggered when the unit leaves all the selected geofences.

Alarm (SOS)

A notification of this type is triggered when the system receives an alarm message from the unit. For this purpose, the device should support the function of sending such messages or a sensor of the Alarm type should be configured in the unit properties.

Digital input

A notification of this type is triggered if a digital input of the device is activated or deactivated. To configure the notification, specify the input number on the Activation or Deactivation tab, respectively.

If the message doesn't have the I/O parameter, the io_n parameter is analyzed.

Parameter in a message

Using this type of notification, you can control sensor parameters in messages. It allows controlling parameters sent by the device and doesn’t include the control of virtual parameters (sats, speed, lat, and so on).

To configure a notification of this type, follow these steps:

  1. In the drop-down list, select the parameter you want to control.

For parameters of the in and out types, you can control only the availability or lack of the parameter.

  2. Select one of the available control types:
    • Value range. Allows specifying the minimum and maximum values of the parameter and select the activation type. For this type, follow steps 3 and 4.
    • Text mask. Allows controlling text parameters. For this type, specify the text mask in the Mask field using special characters (* and ?).
    • Parameter availability. Allows controlling the availability of the selected parameter in messages.
    • Parameter lack. Allows controlling the lack of the selected parameter in messages. For the notification to be activated when the parameter appears or disappears from messages, select the Only when state changed option in the Generate notification parameter.
  3. Specify the minimum and maximum values of the parameter. If you want the notification to be activated when the value is not equal to 0, specify 0 in both fields and select the Out of range activation type.
  4. Select the activation type:
    • In range. The notification is triggered when receiving values which fall in the specified range, including the values specified as minimum and maximum ones.
    • Out of range. The notification is triggered when receiving values which don’t fall in the specified range.

Sensor value

For a notification of this type, two control methods are available:

  • Value range. Allows specifying a range of sensor values to control whether the received values fall in it or not.
  • Value leap. Allows specifying one value to control whether the received values exceed it or not.

For the Value range method, follow these steps:

  1. In the drop-down list, select the sensor type and/or in the Sensor name field, specify the name mask using special characters (* and ?).
  2. In the Similar sensors drop-down list, select one of the available options:
    • Sum up values. The values of all sensors of the selected type and/or sensors with the same name mask are summed up. Thus, the sum of all values is taken into account before the notification is activated.
    • Calculate separately. The values of all sensors of the selected type and/or sensors with the same specified name mask are controlled separately.
  3. Specify the minimum and maximum values of the sensor.
  4. Select the activation type:
    • In range. The notification is activated when receiving values which fall in the specified range, including the values specified as minimum and maximum ones.
    • Out of range. The notification is activated when receiving values which don’t fall in the specified range.

For the Value leap method, open the same-name tab on the right and follow steps 1 and 2 from the instruction above. In the Delta field, specify a difference when exceeding which the notification should be triggered. The sensor values can be increased or decreased because the specified delta is compared with the module (for example, |12 − 10| = 2 and |10 − 12| = 2).

Connection loss

To configure a notification of this type, follow the steps below:

  1. Select when the notification should be triggered: when the connection is lost or restored. You can select both options.
  2. Select in what way the connection loss should be detected:

    Control typeDescription
    No coordinates

If this option is selected, the connection loss refers to the absence of coordinates in the unit messages.

It may happen that messages with sensor data are sent but they don't contain data on the unit location (for example, if the GPS antenna is closed).

No dataIf this option is selected, the connection loss refers to the absense of any messages from the unit.

  3. In the Time interval field, specify how long the connection loss should last in order for the notification to be triggered.
  4. If necessary, specify if he unit should be inside or outside a certain geofence as an additional condition for triggering the notification. To configure the Geofences option, follow steps 1—4 from the guide on configuring the notification of the same name.

Off time

A notification of this type is used to monitor vehicle off time.

In the Max allowed off time field, you should specify for how long a vehicle can be parked; and in the Speed, no more than field, you should indicate what speed shouldn't be exceeded during off time.

The maximum value for the Max allowed off time field is 47 hours 59 minutes.

To avoid situations where the notification is triggered because of the device inaccuracy, it is advisable to specify a speed value of more than 0 km/h, for example, 1—5 km/h.

In addition, you can activate the Sensor value control. In this case, the notification will trigger only if both conditions are met. It is convenient, for example, to control off time with the engine or implements turned on.

Using the Geofences option, you can monitor off time in regards to specific geofences or groups of geofences (must be created in advance). Specify the control type: inside or outside the geofence. Select the resource whose geofences should be shown in the list (select All available to view the geofences of all available resources). Also, choose the geofences or groups of geofences (shown in the square brackets), for which this notification should work. For the search convenience, you can use the dynamic filters above the lists.

SMS

You can receive a notification when an SMS message arrives. To specify which SMS messages you are interested in, enter a mask for the message text. This feature can be useful, for example, when a device sends SMS of certain content in case of malfunction.

Interposition of units

This notification allows you to control the interposition of units: their approaching and moving away from each other. Select the criterion (approaching or moving away) and transfer from the left list to the right one the units whose approaching or moving away should trigger the notification. You can use the dynamic filter above the list to search.

Specify the settings described below.

SettingDescription
Radius, mThe distance between the units with decreasing or increasing of which the notification should be triggered.
Advanced optionsFilters for speed and sensor value.
Logical operatorThe value on the basis of which the notification is triggered. If OR is selected, the notification is triggered when the unit approaches or moves away from any of the selected units. If the logical operator AND is selected, the notification is triggered when the unit approaches or moves away simultaneously from the marked units.

The interposition of units is checked by the system using the latest messages only.

Address

This type of notification is similar to geofence control. It allows you to control the entrance/exit or being in or out of a particular place. Enter some address parameters (e.g. city, street, and house) and then select the most appropriate option from the found addresses. Also, specify the radius of the point. In addition, filters for the sensor and speed can be applied.

Excess of messages

With this type of notification, you can be warned if a unit exceeds the limit of messages you have set. This can be either ordinary data messages or only SMS messages. Indicate the limit of messages and set the reset interval. For example, if you configure a notification, as shown in the example below, the notification will trigger if the unit sends 3 or more SMS messages within 1 hour.

Fuel filling

This notification type allows you to control fuel fillings. When creating the notification, you can specify the sensor masks that should be used to estimate fuel fillings and their volume. Also, using the Inside geofence and Outside geofence options, you can monitor fuel fillings in regards to specific geofences (must be created in advance). Select the resource whose geofences should be shown in the list (select All available to view the geofences of all available resources). Also, choose the geofences or groups of geofences (shown in the square brackets), for which this notification should work. For the search convenience, you can use the dynamic filters above the lists.

The notification is triggered after a fuel filling is detected. To receive the notification only once, it is necessary to activate the Ignore recalculated data option.

Notification is triggered for each fuel level sensor individually.

Fuel theft

Notification of this type allows you to monitor fuel thefts. When creating a notification, you can specify the sensor masks that should be used to estimate fuel thefts and their volume. Also, using the Inside geofence and Outside geofence options, you can monitor fuel thefts for certain geofences (must be created in advance). Select the resource whose geofences should be shown in the list (select All available to view the geofences of all available resources). Also, choose the geofences or groups of geofences (shown in the square brackets), for which this notification should work. For the search convenience, you can use the dynamic filters above the lists.

The notification is triggered after a fuel theft is detected. To receive the notification only once, it is necessary to activate the Ignore recalculated data option.

Notification is triggered for each fuel level sensor individually.

Route progress

To control the route progress, select the changes that should be controlled when fulfilling rides of this route: ride status (started, finished, aborted), activity at check points (arrival, departure, skip), schedule control (delay, outrunning, return to schedule).

Additionally, you can specify the name mask of the route, schedule or ride.

Driver

Choose whether you want to control the assignment or the separation of the driver. To control both, create two notifications. To specify a particular driver, enter the code (or code mask) in the Driver code field. You can add multiple masks separated by commas without spaces. If you leave an asterisk (*) in this field, all drivers will be monitored without exception.

Trailer

Choose control type: trailer assignment or separation. Settings to adjust are the same as for the previous type.

Passenger activity

To receive notifications of passenger's activity, choose the control type (check in/check out) and enter the passenger's code or code mask. You can add several codes or code masks separated by commas without spaces. If you leave the asterisk sign (*) in the field, all the passengers will be controlled.

Passenger alarm

Indicate a timeout upon the expiry of which you'll receive an alarm message if any passenger of a chosen resource stays in a vehicle. Timeout is started to count upon the passenger assignment.

Maintenance

Notifications of this type are used for services created on the Service intervals tab of the unit properties.

To configure a maintenance notification, follow these steps:

  1. Select when you want to receive notifications: before or after the service term (the Service term approach and Service term expiry buttons, respectively).

  2. In the Service intervals field, specify the name of the service for which you want to configure the notification. To specify several names, use the name mask. If the symbol * is specified in the field, the notification is applied to all created intervals.
  3. To be notified of the service term approach, specify how many kilometres, hours, and/or days should be left before the beginning of the service term so that the notification is triggered. To be notified of the service term expiry, specify how many kilometres, hours, and/or days should pass after the expiration of the service so that the notification is triggered.

The maintenance notification is triggered only once when at least one of the conditions specified in step 3 is fulfilled. After performing maintenance work, register it using the event registrar or in the unit properties so that the notification term is counted again.

Notifications of this type are not triggered if:

  • a unit with an already expired service interval is selected when creating a notification;
  • the unit for which the notification is created doesn't have any positional messages.

In the settings of notifications of different types, the measurement system is the same as in the resource.
