Enabling private use mode for a device
Who can do it: Service provider, customer
Where: Wialon Platform FleetSpace
The Private use mode can be activated for a device in different ways:
- Through a physical hardware switch in the vehicle,
- Manually via the Manage private use widget in Wialon Platform FleetSpace,
- Using the automation action template Start private mode (for service providers).
Enabling private use via hardware
If your device is equipped with a physical button or switch for private mode, activating this hardware control will enable private use, provided the Private use sensor is correctly configured in Wialon Platform Studio. See Configuring the Private use sensor for detailed instructions.
Enabling private use via a widget
To enable private use for a device using the Manage private use widget in Wialon Platform FleetSpace, follow these steps:
- Log in to Wialon Platform FleetSpace.
- Navigate to the Devices page or Drivers online page, depending on where the Manage private use widget is configured.
- Select the device for which you want to disable private use. In the case of drivers, you disable private use for the device to which the driver is assigned.
- Locate the Manage private use widget indicated with the icon
on the list row. It can be located directly on the row or inside menu that opens after clicking on the three dots icon
. If not, click on the item to open the details page and locate the widget there. - Click on the Manage private use widget
. - Set a duration for the private mode. You can set a preconfigured value or set a custom duration in the calendar for up to 30 days.
- Click Apply.
Result of activating private mode
When private mode is activated, the following occurs:
-
The device position data is hidden on the map and the address field.
-
All GPS-dependent data (coordinates, course, satellite number, speed) is not registered in the system and can’t be restored.
-
Features relying on GPS data, such as trips, parking, driver behavior criteria, are not available. Engine hours and mileage are recorded only if they come from device parameters via the Mileage counter and Engine hours counter sensors.
To keep mileage and engine hours accurate in private mode for maintenance, tax reporting, and settlements with drivers configure the Mileage counter and Engine hours counter sensors to use device parameters. Common mileage parameters used by many manufacturers include
vehicle.mileageandcan.vehicle.mileage. -
Presence within geofences is entirely undetectable.
-
Both the device icon and the driver icon (if a driver is assigned to that device) appear striped.
-
If the Private use (chip) widget is added to the workspace, it appears in the list or in the details page.
See the guides for service providers on automatic activation of private mode on the pages Enabling private mode automatically according to schedule and Configuring private mode automation based on logical expressions.
